Cassowary Credits Methodologies

Each Cassowary Credit represents a measurable and independently verified improvement in the condition of the Wet Tropics rainforest. This improvement is defined and achieved through an approved project methodology, ensuring that every credit reflects real and scientifically robust outcomes.

There is currently one approved methodology that can be used to generate Cassowary Credits, the Rainforest Replanting Methodology.

Rainforest
Replanting
Methodology

The Rainforest Replanting Methodology is the first methodology developed for the Cassowary Credit Program. This methodology provides a detailed, science-based framework for implementing project activities that restore degraded rainforest areas.

The Rainforest Replanting Methdology establishes clear guidelines for:

  • Identifying eligible project areas
  • Implementing replanting and restoration practices
  • Monitoring and measuring environmental outcomes
  • Quantifying the improvements that can be converted into Cassowary Credits

The methodology ensures that projects deliver meaningful benefits, including enhanced biodiversity, improved ecosystem services, and greater resilience for the Wet Tropics rainforest.

The Cassowary Credit Standard, together with the Rainforest Replanting Methodology, forms the foundation for maintaining the integrity and transparency of the program.

For more details, you can review the Rainforest Replanting Methodology and its accompanying Explanatory Statement.

Methodology
Development

Eco-Markets Australia does not develop methodologies. Our role is to independently assess methodologies created by third parties and approve them for generating credits under our programs. We encourage methodology developers to submit new methodologies or amendments for approval, helping to expand the Cassowary Credit Program and broaden the range of activities eligible to generate Cassowary Credits.

All Cassowary Credit Methodologies must adhere to the requirements outlined in the Cassowary Credit Standard and the Methodology Approvals Procedure. Developers can submit new methodologies or proposed amendments directly to the Eco-Markets Australia Secretariat team for assessment.
